The World's LARGEST Gold Market - in Dubai
The Gold Souk in Dubai’s Deira district, has unlimited collections of gold ornaments and jewellery, including bangles, necklaces, rings, and many more. The gold and diamond jewellery outlets in Dubai, are the world’s largest.
Those with a liking for the sparkling metal, should make their way to Dubai for a glimpse of the world’s largest ring. The Najmat Taiba or Star of Taiba, which is estimated to cost more than $3 million, is on display at the Deira Gold Souk.
The 21-carat ring weighs almost 64 kilograms (141 pounds), and is studded with 5.1 kilograms (11 pounds) of precious stones. The world’s largest gold ring has a 2,200mm perimeter, 700mm outer perimeter, 490mm inside diameter, 500mm back width, and 250mm width of the ring bottom.
It took 55 workers 45 days to make this piece, and they worked 10 hours a day. Since the Najmat Taiba has been on display, it has become the centre of attraction for visiting gold enthusiasts.
It has 615 Swarovski stones according to news reports. The ring has a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records, and was endorsed by the World Gold Council. The Najmat Taiba cost its owner only $547,000 to make back in 2000, when gold was priced at about $250 an ounce.
The ring is owned by Dubai-based company – Taiba – and has been put on display by Kanz Jewellers. The world’s largest ring brings a lot of promotion for other items at the shop.
Anil Dhanak, Managing Director of Kanz, told the reporters that the value of the biggest ring in the world has multiplied many times over the years, due to fluctuating gold prices.
“This is the world’s biggest gold ring and we have displayed it on behalf of Taiba, the Saudi Arabian jewellery maker who made this unique piece in 2000, when the gold price was only $250 per ounce. Now the value of gold has gone up to $1,500 per ounce, so you can imagine how much fortune the idle gold ring has brought to its owner.”
